Is There A Way For Me To Deal With My White Guilt?
White Guilt – noun – The feelings of shame and remorse some white people experience when they recognize the legacy of racism and racial injustice and perceive the ways they have benefited from it.
There is no doubt that many white people in today’s day and age are deeply ashamed by many of the acts that the generations before them participated in. Some feel shame and guilt knowing that they come directly from the very family lines that enslaved Africans, stole land and oppressed many groups of indiginous people.
Some white people, believe it or not, are oblivious to many of the facts that revolve around these unjust pasts of history. Then there are those who seamingly carry on this racial injustice to this very day.
If you find yourself experiencing white guilt or want to understand someone who has, this article by Russell Siler Jones, Th.D., LCMHCS will prove very educational.
